A large section of the Kiwi Water Park broke loose during setup on Lake Dunstan on Wednesday, drifting almost 1.5 kilometres from its site in strong winds.

The inflatable equipment, which is being installed at a bay in Lowburn ahead of the summer operating season, ended up on the shoreline near the Lake Dunstan Boat Club at McNulty Inlet.

Kiwi Water Park co-owner Emily Rutherford confirmed the incident occurred while her crew was “in the midst of setup”.

Emily said the equipment was dragged to shore by a boat and that “it’s all sorted”.

She confirmed there were no injuries and the equipment sustained no damage.

“Once we are set up and everything is rigged there is zero chance of anything coming loose,” Emily said.

It is unclear how long the inflatable section was adrift, and Emily did not confirm if the incident had been reported to any authorities - marine or otherwise.

Setup was scheduled to continue early Thursday morning (November 27).

However, challenging conditions may persist.

Following the strong gusts and whitecaps seen on the lake on Wednesday, the Windy app was last night forecasting wind gusts of up to 80km/h for the area on Thursday afternoon.

The park is set to open to groups on Monday (December 1), while members of the general public will need to wait a few more days, with the official opening for the park's sixth season scheduled for the

following Saturday (December 6).
