Patearoa Boil Water Advisory Lifted

The Boil Water Advisory for Patearoa has been lifted today, Monday 15 December.

Residents no longer need to boil their water for drinking or food preparation.

The advisory was originally issued as a precaution, as the water supply previously lacked a treatment barrier for protozoa. New ultraviolet and filtration systems have been installed at the Patearoa Water Treatment Plant, removing protozoa risks and ensuring the supply meets New Zealand Drinking Water Standards.

“Recent water quality testing has confirmed that the new systems are performing as intended, giving us full confidence to lift the Boil Water Advisory,” CODC Water Services Operations Manager Andrew Watson said. “These upgrades provide a long-term level of protection for the Patearoa water supply.”

Council acknowledges the inconvenience this advisory has caused and sincerely thank residents for their patience, cooperation, and resilience.

“We appreciate the community’s ongoing support as we continue working to provide safe, reliable drinking water across our district,” said Watson.

Now that the advisory has been lifted, residents are encouraged to take the following steps to ensure fresh, clean water throughout their household:

  • Flush plumbing systems: run all cold water taps for at least 5 minutes to clear old water from your pipes
  • Flush appliances: clean and flush coffee machines, ice makers, water dispensers, and similar appliances
  • Flush header tanks: ensure a full turnover of fresh water in any storage tanks
  • Check filters: replace or clean any household water filters
